綜上，我們不難發現一篇好的推薦信，有以下特點：

1.選擇性

在寫推薦信之前，我們要評估找到的推薦人是否對申請有益，也就是説這個推薦人所舉薦的內容是否和申請的專業相匹配，是否能夠通過推薦人的描述去匹配申請人的性格或是學術上的能力。在校學生，優先選擇專業課任課老師、論文指導老師以及院系領導。 這樣能很好的寫清楚你和老師因為授課原因結識，之後在課堂上的表現老師也能比較清楚的寫出，也具有可信度。那麼，推薦人對申請者的評估基準就也會順理成章，你在班級或年級的排名也就有了非常確信的依據。 國內學生對於“權威”的認可度一直都比較高，所以我們會發現很多申請者偏向於選擇頭銜很大的或者行政職位很高的人作推薦者，卻忽略了一個問題：你如何陳述這些“牛人”與你的關係呢?“合適”才是選擇推薦人的關鍵。

第一點為網羅申請者的優勢：我們要思考申請這個專業的理由，申請人具有哪些技能和經驗能否在眾多競爭者中勝出，在過往的經驗中，已經取得的成就。
